Whitening Your Teeth
Are you happy with the color of your teeth? Even though it is natural for teeth to take on a yellowish hue, this may not be pleasing. Staining and discoloration of teeth also results from coffee, tea, smoking, tetracycline and life.

Whitening teeth through bleaching is effective, safe and convenient when supervised by the dental professional. For these reasons it is the preferred method of whitening. The process takes about two weeks and can be done at home after your dentist has selected the proper treatment and provided you with complete materials and instructions.

For certain patients with severe discoloration, better results may be obtained by bonding or laminates. Bonding involves applying a compound to the surface of the teeth that makes the teeth much more attractive.

Laminates
Another option for improving the color and appearance of your teeth is laminate veneers. This process involves applying pre-formed laminate "fronts" to discolored or misshapen teeth. An advantage is that the laminate can be polished better than bonding compound and there is less shaping to do after the laminate has been placed.

Laminates are a solution for filling gaps between teeth, fixing the appearance of twisted teeth, broadening your smile and providing sculptural enhancement of your smile. Cosmetic contouring of your teeth may best be achieved through a combination of laminates and bonding.

A combination of these procedures also may help you if you have misaligned teeth or have been grinding your teeth.

Aesthetic Fillings
If the visible portion of your teeth are darkened by fillings you may be able to improve the look of your smile through aesthetic fillings. Fillings are available in three types: white (or tooth color), or gold.

White is preferable where the filling is in an area that is part of the visible smile. The compound may be used directly for smaller surfaces or indirectly as a cover for larger surfaces requiring a metallic filling.

Gold fillings are preferable in an instance where a white filling cannot be used because the durability of a metal filling is required. Gold is best used where the filling is not part of the visible smile. Gold is the longest lasting of filling materials and has been used in dentistry for thousands of years.

If you have a gold filling that shows when you smile, a simple procedure can dull the finish down to take the shine off the filling.

Because gold is relatively expensive, it is not always a viable option.

Twinkles
Twinkles Dental Jewelry is bonded to the tooth like a dental bracket. The bonding is done in our office. It stays on for years -  until you choose to have it removed. The removal is done in our office, it takes a few minutes and can be done in connection with your regular checkup. Once removed there is no mark or damage to the tooth.
